I was thinking recently about all Jesus went through for us. It really is mind-blowing when you stop and consider the amount of pain and turmoil he endured just in the last day of his life before the crucifixion. Imagine the heartache of having all his disciples abandon him when he was arrested. Imagine the pain of knowing even the disciple that was closest to him had denied knowing Jesus 3 times. Imagine the emotional rollercoaster he went through as he was accused of and condemned for crimes he didn’t commit. And of course, the physical pain he went through was unimaginable.
Jesus spent his last night imprisoned in the home of Caiaphas, the high priest, being beaten, bruised, and tortured. The next day he endured being whipped, beaten, and having a crown of thorns pressed down on his head. And finally, he carried his cross to Calvary, and they nailed him to it by his hands and feet. Until his death, Jesus struggled to find breath by pushing himself up by the nails that held him to the cross.
