Where’s Your Sword?

One of the greatest gifts God has given us is his word. Where would we be if we didn’t have the Bible? It’s such a gift to have God’s word written down to tell us all God has done for us and to guide us in living the Christian life. I hope you know God’s word is so much more than a book. It’s more than a story and
it’s more than a guide. Paul says in Ephesians 6 that it is a sword.

The Bible is the only weapon we have against the attacks of our enemy, the devil. Scripture is clear that the Christian life is a battle. From the moment we place our faith in Jesus we are under attack by the
enemy. He wants us to fall away from our faith, and he will do everything he can to make that happen. That means we need our sword. It’s the only weapon we have to strike back.

But Satan doesn’t wait until we have our Bibles open to attack. And that means the best place for God’s word to be is in your heart. It doesn’t do you any good to have the word sitting on a shelf or in the back seat of your car when the enemy attacks. You need to have your sword at the ready when he comes to tempt
you or discourage you or to make you fearful. That takes hiding His word in your heart, like David did in Psalm 119.
