Time is Shorter Than We Think

“Man who is born of a woman is few of days and full of trouble. He comes out like a flower and withers; he flees like a shadow and continues not.” –Job 14:1-2

Many of us go about our days living as though the days ahead of us aren’t numbered. We chase after short term pleasures rather than things of eternal value, as though time were an unlimited resource. In our modern time, we can be bad about spending tons of time watching tv, scrolling on our social media accounts, and seeking entertainment in various other ways. But all the while, we’re pushing things of infinitely more value to the back burner. Our time in the word, building our relationship with God gets pushed to the remnants of our day, or pushed off to tomorrow. Our pursuit of fulfilling the Great Commission is all but forgotten. Prayer becomes something we only do at meals and bedtime. And at the end of it all, we’re one day closer to the end of this life, and the frightening reality is, we never know how many more
days we have.

Job says that our days are few. They’re like a flower that withers, and comes to a swift end. This life is short, and none of us knows how much time we have left. So, may we be careful not to waste what few days we have. Don’t wait to start growing your relationship with God. Don’t wait to get serious about your faith or about living out the Great Commission. Don’t wait to do what God is calling you to do. Our time may be shorter than we think, let’s make sure it counts!
