This time of year, many of us are thinking a lot about gifts. You have probably been thinking a lot about what kind of gifts you’ll give to loved ones this Christmas. You’ve probably also thought at least some about
what gifts you hope are waiting for you Christmas morning. We’ll spend hours shopping for and wrapping gifts for family and friends. We’re looking forward to when we’ll get to open our gifts on Christmas. We’re
bombarded this time of year with adds and sales on TV, on social media, and in our mailboxes, all trying to sell us gift ideas.
Gifts are a major part of the Christmas season, but many of us make the mistake of making gifts the focus of Christmas. Christmas was never meant to be about gifts. Christmas is supposed to be centered around
one gift, the ultimate gift! That’s how it’s always been. This whole season is about the gift God sent us from heaven that first Christmas 2,000 years ago. He gave us his Son Jesus, the perfect lamb of God, who would become the perfect sacrifice that make a way for us to get back to right relationship with our God. He came to die in our place so we could live with him forever!
That should be our focus this time of year. This Christmas, don’t focus on gifts, focus on The Gift!
