When Jesus left to go be with the Father, he sent us a Helper, the Holy Spirit. What a blessing it is to know that Jesus didn’t leave us as orphans to fend for ourselves. Instead he sent his own Spirit to help us as we try to navigate this life in a way that brings honor and glory to him!
Our Helper came to convict us about our sin and of God’s expectations and the fact that because we fall short, judgment is coming. The Helper came to bring us assurance of our salvation, guaranteeing that we’ve been justified before God because of Jesus’ blood shed on the cross. Our Helper came to dwell with us so that he can lead us into all truth, keeping us from falling prey to deceptive teaching. He came to transform us, to take broken sinful people like us and make us look more like Jesus one step at a time. And, as we’ll see this morning, our Helper came to empower us to accomplish the mission Jesus set before us. It’s
only by the power of our Helper that we’ll be able to make disciples of all nations, baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey Jesus.
Aren’t you thankful for your Helper? I think we all ought to take a moment and say a prayer thanking Jesus for sending us a Helper! Where would we be without Him?
