And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age”. –Matthew 28:19
As Matthew records it, these were the final words of Jesus to his disciples. After saying these words, Jesus left this earth to sit at the right hand of the Father. Jesus had done what he came to do, and he passed the torch to his disciples. It was now their responsibility to go out into the world and tell lost people what Jesus did for them, to make disciples, to baptize, and to teach people to obey the words of Jesus.
