Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wick ed will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. –Psalm 1
I don’t know about you, but I want my life to be like that. I want to live a life that is blessed, one that is fruitful. I want to be like that tree that doesn’t wither and prospers in everything. And, according to the Psalm writer, that kind of life comes from being firmly rooted in God’s word. It comes when we find delight in God’s word and meditate on it day and night!
But isn’t it true that very often we don’t do that? How often we walk in the counsel of the wicked and delight in the things of this world. And, if we find our delight in the things of this world, we won’t be like that tree planted by the water, we’ll be like chaff the wind drives away. That’s when things seem to fall apart.
Where do you find your delight? In the law of the LORD?
