Jesus says in Matthew 13:44, “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.”
What an incredible way Jesus chose to communicate the surpassing value of being part of the kingdom of God. Jesus seems to be saying that the most valuable thing we could ever have is a place in God’s kingdom. In fact it’s worth giving everything else up for. Do you believe that?
Most of us would say we do, and yet we often struggle to act as though the Kingdom of God is the most valuable thing to us. Some of us hold onto our money with tight fists and refuse to give any of it up for the benefit of the kingdom. Sometimes we refuse to give up our time to serve the people around us. And we often refuse to give up our comfort, even for just a moment, to walk across the room and share the gospel with someone who is far from Him. You see, we need to be reminded often of the surpassing worth of God’s Kingdom over these things.
Incredible things happen when God’s people realize that His Kingdom is a treasure worth giving up everything for. This realization led the apostles to give their lives for the spread of the gospel. And it may be something God wants to remind you of today so that you can live out your part in the growth of his kingdom.
